Jess Bunting

About me

Hi, I’m Jess Bunting. I’m an aspiring programmer and bioinformatician, but I enjoy learning about anything and everything. I’m currently enrolled in computer programming coursework at Montgomery College (Rockville, Maryland). I hope to enroll in a graduate program in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related department in the near future. I previously received a B.S. in Biology from Georgetown University (Washington, DC) with a concentration in Biochemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology and a minor in Bioethics.
I encountered some obstacles in my undergraduate education and in my early career - this is something I’m comfortable speaking about openly. In college, I faced unexpected health and personal challenges that I struggled to cope with, let alone flourish through. Upon graduation, I accepted a job outside of my area of study with the intention to someday return to science. When my position was cut due to COVID-19, I immediately knew it would be the right time to resume studying bioinformatics.

My goals

Right now, I am seeking out ways to grow: projects, mentorships, temporary or permanent roles.

My ideal opportunity would be to partner with an individual or team to help support their existing bioinformatics projects or software development projects, or to collaborate with a mentor on open source projects.

My skills

My relevant skills include:

  • Intermediate level C++, Python, Java

  • Basic HTML

  • Ability to carefully and accurately follow SOPs
